Performance Information
One of the most quietly brilliant pianists alive performs at CMM just days before his Carnegie Hall appearance. Polish-Hungarian maestro Piotr Anderszewski has won the prestigious Gilmore Artist Award and multiple Gramophone prizes. NPR has called him “one of the most revered pianists today, and one of the most delightfully unpredictable.” His all-Brahms-and-Schubert program is a journey into the deepest chambers of the Romantic imagination, moving through three collections of Brahms’ late piano pieces to Schubert’s turbulent, searching Piano Sonata in C Minor. The day also includes a pre-concert screening of legendary filmmaker Bruno Monsaingeon’s Unquiet Traveller, an acclaimed documentary that follows Anderszewski on a concert tour via train through his native Poland.

Anderszewski is renowned for his in-depth readings of selected piano repertoire and his highly-acclaimed recording catalogue spanning several decades. Throughout his career, Anderszewski has concentrated on the classic German/Viennese repertoire encompassing Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann and Webern. He is also drawn to 20th century central European music, particularly that of Szymanowski and Janáček.
