Performance Information

Back by popular demand, the extraordinary Jean Rondeau returns to dazzle CMM audiences with his singular command of the harpsichord. Described by The Washington Post as “a master of his instrument with the sort of communicative gifts normally encountered in musicians twice his age,” Rondeau is the most exciting harpsichordist of his generation. His program celebrates the golden age of French Baroque keyboard music: Louis Couperin’s improvisatory grandeur, Rameau’s sparkling brilliance, François Couperin’s elegant wit, and Royer’s thrilling La Marche des Scythes. In the resonant sanctuary of First Lutheran Church, this music will transport you straight to Versailles.

The Program

Louis Couperin: Suite en Ré

Jean-Philippe Rameau: Prélude in A minor, Suite en La (Nouvelles Suites de Pièces de Clavecin)

François Couperin: L’Art de toucher le clavecin: Premier Prélude en Do Majeur; Pièces de clavecin: La Ténébreuse (Allemande) and La Favorite (Chaconne à deux tems - Rondeau)

Pancrace Royer: La Marche des Scythes
