December 4, 2011 Peabody Opera Outreach - "Ariel's Tempest"
Ariel's Tempest presents the wonder and magic of this most magical of Shakespeare's comedies in just 50 minutes! We will see the five singing characters in the play: Prospero, the wronged magician; Ariel and Caliban, creatures of air and earth respectively; and Ferdinand and Miranda, the very young lovers. However, a modern character - the Stage Manager - will narrate. She introduces Shakespeare at work on his play, spars wittily with him between scenes, and joins with him in taking all the other bit parts! Together they explore the themes of tolerance, love, and family.
Peabody Opera Outreach, in conjunction with the Annapolis Opera Company, presents this fully-costumed operatic version of Shakespeare's Tempest by composer Douglas Allan Buchanan. Designed for grade-school audiences, the production is devised and directed by Roger Brunyate, Chair of the Peabody Opera Department.
